How I mastered a service I as afraid of!

If you are like me, you go all in when it comes time to learn something new.

I'm old school, I've been a stylist for over 30 years so when the whole Balayage came to surface I was like "ya right, no thank you"

But at the end of the day I was missing out on the money and getting fresh new clients who want to do fun stuff with their hair.

Plus, as a salon owner I didn't want to turn away the business because many of the stylist were booked and didn't want to do them either lol

So in order to crush this fear I decided to teach a Balayage class and charge for the tickets!

Yes, you heard me correctly. I taught a class and charge for something I had no business teaching at the time. (I think I actually offended one of my stylists for doing this too)

I created a flyer and sent them to the surrounding salons and beauty schools.

I'm happy to say...I sold 9 tickets and the class was a total success.

And to you salon owners, this turned out to be a good way to find new...

Conversations That Convert

The 5-Steps to raise your retention and rebooking rates.

Before we get into these 5-Steps, did you know we have 3 seconds to impress our clients?
Yep, people will size us up in the first 3 seconds of meeting us.
So these 5-Steps are crucial when meeting a client for the first time.
AND let's not leave out our regular clients, they need to feel special too.
Just yesterday I went over "the consultation step" with my long time client who's been growing her hair out so that she can do something different.
There are also two ways we run the risk of loosing clients
1. Because we aren't encouraging them to try something new.
2. Offering deals and swag to new client only.
I once had a client start coming to me after her stylist of 15 years witnessed her stylist give away rewards to "newer" clients and left her out of the free giveaway.
So lets begin
When you greet them, it is important to...

Salon Owners, are you leaving money on the table?

Do you need to find ways to generate more income in your salon?

In your salon

  • Is there room to add more stations?
  • Do you have some empty space on your front counter, empty corner or wall you could display some quick sale boutique items?
  • Could you squeeze in a manicurist?
  • Do you have a storage room you could convert into a treatment room adding multiple service in your salon?
  • Any small room you could convert to a spray tanning room?

When I first opened my salon, It was a five station salon. To make more money to pay the bills, I quickly found a way to add 4 more stations and a manicurist to the salon.

2.5 years later the salon was full, with a waiting list of 4 stylists. This gave me the green light to negotiate a bigger building in my same shopping center. We signed a new lease for a building double the size we were in and we moved in it, 5 weeks later. My ex hubby was a builder so he built everything out. We became an 18 chair salon with one manicures and one...

Top 5 Reasons Clients Don't Come Back.

What creates a loyal client?

Do you ever wonder what clients are saying behind your back?

Do you struggle with a low percentage of retention?

Have you ever done a great job on someones hair and they didn't come back?

I recently had a new client in my chair. She started singing like a canary as to why she was looking for a new stylist... again. After talking with her, I decided to ask other clients about their past experiences with other stylists. I asked the biggest question, why did you stop going to them?

Here are the main reasons clients leave your chair:

  • Rescheduling/flakiness
  • Inconsistent results
  • Running late or behind
  • Drama filled conversations
  • Never try anything different

As you know, I am a Salon Industry Coach, and this was a strong confirmation of what I teach and lecture on.

How to combat these complaints:

  • Rescheduling/flakiness: No matter what, do not reschedule "just because." I know some stylists commute and don't want to come in for...

Make 2018 your best year yet

Ok lets get this party started!!

It's always such a big subject at the beginning of every year to set your intentions and monetary goals.

Why do we set them in the first place? Usually because we had a struggle or two the previous year and we are determined not to re-live the same experiences.

Why do some people, never bother?

One reason comes to mind...have you ever been all fired up at the beginning of the year. You get yourself all set up with some big goals, only to not have them happen?

So today I'm going to make it super easy on you by attaching two of my favorite and important tools to get you started.

Did you know the number one thing we all have in common is, to be happy?  We all want to be happy. Let's face it, being able to live financially independent and pay our bills on time can make us pretty happy. It sure is less stressful when we have the money in the bank.
